They say that bad things never come alone. Right now I am in the train in Hällefors. It seems that one train is broken on this line. There would be no problem for me, but I have a connection train from Börlange to Mora that I will probably lose, and there are only 2 trains to Mora per day. This would be acceptable for me as well, I could visit Börlange these hours (8 hours – maybe also see a movie. See? I try to be...
The train from Gothenburg to Mora has unfortunately no wifi. But somehow I expected that to happen outside big cities or in the trains with not so many commuters/travelers. The signal from Telia is 4G – I am very happy with the sim card so far.The train seems old and has a special smell, that only time and experience can bring. I think that this train saw a lot of places and people. Too bad it cannot speak to relate interesting stories...
Tomorrow at 6:15 I’ll be heading off to Mora. The train trip will take 7 hours from Gothenburg – but it’s ok, because I expect to see through the window a lot of Dalarna-like landscapes. Memento: don’t forget the coffee!
One of the most beautiful places that I ever saw. The island is in the Gothenburg Archipelago and to get there you need a 90 minutes public transport ticket that costs 28 sek. Take tram number 11 from Central Station (tram 9 only during summer) to Saltholmen. After that you have to take boat number 283 for Brännö. The trip with the boat will take 30 minutes, but if it’s sunny stay outside and enjoy the water.
Outside the season,...
Monday at 9am, the city is slowly coming back to life, but really slow. At around 10:30-11:00 you start to have the feeling that people actually live here. The castle in Orebro: Stadparken – once voted the most beautiful park in Sweden:
St Nikolai:
A nice statue (I named it “The Viking”):You can leave your baggage/backpack at the Luggage Storage that you can find inside the Central Station – cost for 4 hours 50 sek or 24...
(10 sek ~ 1 euro)To eat:
cinnabon – a MUST in Sweden hering SOS plate (I paid 129 sek): grilled hot dog – an interesting and cheap meal
Leksands – delicious swedish crispbread
“Chocolate ball with coconut” – not the real name, but people apparently understand what I mean Not a must:
meatballs – nice, but not a wow (179 sek)
Reindeer stew – I will not eat second time, the meat is similar with beef...
A beautiful island in the Stockholm’s Archipelago:
The ticket that you need from Stockholm to Vaxholm is for AB zone (54 sek), so you will pay 108 sek for the public transport. The tickets cannot be bought from the driver. I used the “SL – Journey planner and tickets application” to buy tickets on demand. The application is incredible easy to use, it’s in english and you can see a countdown with the availability of...
The museum opens at 10 and closes at 17. If you arrive late saturday (around 11), plan 30 minutes for the tickets queue. This museum (130 sek one ticket) is about the Vasa ship, that sank in 1628 (because of construction errors) and was taken out after 333 years, in 1961. The treatment of the wood and the reparations lasted 27 years, and the research of the wood preservation under water continue also today. You cannot walk inside the ship of...
By bus Flygbussarna one way: 119 sek (45 min)
By train: 170 sek (40 min)
By express train: 190 sek (20 min) I chose to go by bus (each 10 minutes during the day) – the downside of this option: the seats are limited, maybe you have to wait for the next bus.
I can live long without food, but water and Internet are for me a must. So first thing after arriving in Stockholm was to find a sim card with data traffic.
I did before some reasearch, and I found that Telia are the oldest in Sweden and they have the best coverage, including outside big cities; this was for me a very important point, because I plan to spend some days at the country side and a reliable Internet connection is critical.
Telenor...
Today in the airplane before departure:
A guy is looking for his place, 27F, at the window. He sees that the place is already occupied by a girl.
The guy: “27 F at the window, that is my place”
The girl (smilling cute): “You let me stay at the window”.
The guy: “OK, you stay at the window”
The Force is strong with that one.
Maybe the best To-Go coffee ever: the filtered coffee during the Ryanair flight (3 euro):The view while drinking the coffee – the Carpathian mountains.
Yesterday evening I was too tired to write something. After 45 km in 2 days I can say that I reached my limit. Completely tired, my muscles hurt bad and I have to fight with myself not to cry at every step that I make. OK, I exaggerate, because I actually love the pain of the muscles after a long incredible beautiful hike.Saturday – Tegeler See hike – 17km (2h31):
Sunday – Grunewald – 28,5 km (4h18):
It was a hot...
