Kilchurn Castle

Yesterday I wrote that I am planning to visit an island close to Oban. Well, today early at the breakfast, I took a completely new decision: to visit the Kilchurn Castle. Oh, what a fantastic idea!!

So I took the bus from Oban at 10:30, perfect timing for the weather: it was sunny. After 40 minutes I was at the bus station named Loch Awe. Here I had a unexpected encounter: Saint Conan’s Kirk. The entrance was free.

So I walked further, toward the castle. There are around 2 km on the main street. The walk is scary because of the cars, but the views are nice.

Once I reached the castle, I was mesmerized. It is gorgeous and free. As I said before, best things in life are for free.

Views from the castle:

The highland cattles are so beautiful. Here you have the female:

And males:

The females are the ones with hornes. I didn’t know before.

I returned to Oban with the train this time (which by the way is cheaper, but the times are really not comfortable to go and visit just by train).

Below the view from the train station:

Near Oban there are two castles and each has an entrance fee of 6 Pounds. And they are not even close to the beauty of Kilchurn Castle. And now I am wondering… really? Why would I pay if there are so many other amazing choices? Of course, I paid for the transportation (14,50 Pounds), but still …

The plan for tomorrow is to change the location. I will be for the next 3 days in Ballachulish near Glen Coe.
