Great Glen Way – Stage 3+4

Today was a very long day. The only break that I made in about 8 hours was in Fort Augustus, for 30 minutes.

I left the amazing boat at Laggan Locks today morning at 8:30

I chose the official path to Fort Augustus, instead of going to Invergarry. The path continued on a mountain terrain for about 9 km.

There’s a project for Invergarry Station, I am curious what is that about.

The terrain is not feet-friendly:

The next 11 km to Fort Augustus were painful, there were only paved paths:

After 17 km I made a short break of 30 minutes in Fort Augustus. Here the options to eat and make some groceries are very good.

I continued my walk, because I still had 13 km to reach my accommodation in Invermoriston. Some people in Fort Augustus were really cute, they left free apples near the road for people to take:

I took two, they were delicious!!

The path continued with a little climb of about 10 minutes. This should have not be a problem, but my feet were already a bit tired because of the hard terrain.

After a few minutes, the walk splits in two: the high route and the low route. I chose the low route and didn’t regret it. The views were nice and the route was not that easy after so many kilometers.

The terrain has a lot of stones, some are big and I had to be careful where to step. For “breathtaking” views is better to walk the high route, but one will have to work really hard for them.

In Invermoriston I had the pleasure to find some astounding falls:

The entire walk was 31 km.

In Invermoriston there’s a grocery shop that closes during the weekend at 12/13 and the hotel on the main street has a restaurant.

The Elevation profile is below:

For information about the high route, I found this blog really good.
