Crail to St Andrews

To get to Crail I took the bus 99 from Dundee to St Andreas and after that bus 95 to Crail. A day ticket is 11,5 pounds, but I didn’t know, so I traveled with single tickets. The journey to St Andreas was 5 pounds and to Crail 4,5. So for single tickets I paid 14,5 pounds.

From Crail I followed the Fife Coastal Path.

The way was ok, but very rough and remote. Many parts of the walk were on beaches with big stones. The walk was not easy and I totally underestimated it. It should have been 23 km, but in the end I walked 29. At some point, very close to St Andreas I was blocked by a tide. So I had to return to the closest connection with the main road and continue there. 5 km near cars that have speed is not an enjoyable walk.

But I found a beach with fine gold sand and that one was marvelous. I was alone in these wonderful places. Just me and some birds.

During the walk I found 2 places where people come and play golf. They have really nice views playing a game that I will never understand. I mean … what’s the beauty in hitting a ball with a stick? It’s not even fast, strong. I don’t know, but is it considered a sport? For example I am a huge fan of snooker and it’s also a ball and stick involved, but it’s also spectacular.

Anyway, below some photos:

Some signs say that if there’s a tide, wait for it to go away. How many hours is that? Because I have absolutely no idea and that was the reason I had to abandon the idea of finishing the walk on the Coastal Path. I couldn’t afford being stuck between two beaches affected by tide and eventually sleep there ?!?

The walk was challenging, more than Great Glen Way for example. The escalation was 300 meters, not much, but many parts were on slippery stones. Good that I had my amazing hiking shoes.

Once in St Andreas I visited the Cathedral, that is free.

The castle was not free, but I could take some photos from outside.
