Stirling

Stirling is a very lovely city, with a castle and very nice views to the mountains that surround the area.

Expect expensive, but it’s worth it. Two days in this city were a good idea, because there are lots to see. The most visited places are the castle (15 Pounds) and the Wallace Monument (10.5 Pounds). I found the prices a bit too high, so I preferred to take a walk and see them both from all possible angles.

The Unicorn appears in Stirling again. First I saw it in Inverness.

The story behind the photo below is quite interesting. It’s about a guy that wanted to fly and he made wings out of feathers and swore that he can fly to France (from Scotland- yeah right). Unfortunately at the Proof of Concept he broke his tight and the statue is depicting him with his leg in modern medicine treatment. At that time, this was not available and people used to die because of this kind of injury. Hello 2018, so happy to live in this year.

It seems that Scots really wanted to fly. There is another funny story about two brothers that constructed an airplane (v1.0), but it had a big problem. It couldn’t get up from the ground. Well yes, this is a problem. The principal thing about an airplane is that it has to …. ummm … fly?!?

An interesting fact about the first female archeologist. It seems that many years ago, when women were not allowed to do anything, this woman discovered some things that were not accepted and they had to be rediscovered later.

Maybe this is the time when the saying “reinventing the wheel” was first said.

There is a scottish tale that sounds pretty much like the beginning of Santa Claus in Scotland.

I am very bad with names, first time I hear somebody presenting himself/herself – second two the name forgotten. Maybe Granny was like me, she heard a story about Santa Claus and because she couldn’t recall his name, she just invented a new one.
