Okuhida Onsengo

From Takayama I took the bus to Okuhida Onsengo, a place known for Spa (lots of hot springs) and the mountain views. The day when I arrived in the area had a warning of snowstorm. That means no view, but lots of snow. I took the gondola from Shinhotaka and went up on the mountain, through a snowstorm-wannabe. Up there were -9 degrees, very cold – I had two pants, 3 jackets and two scarfs and still felt the cold air in my bones. To take photos it was like an adventure, especially from the viewpoint, because every second my phone was in danger of flying away.

After this short trip, I visited a hot spring that is close to the ropeway and I was the only one. This time was a real hot spring, my silver bracelet turned into red-black. I couldn’t believe, I thought I destroyed it, but luckily with toothpaste and some minutes of rubbing with a toothbrush it was again shinny and white. Wheww …

When I arrived back to Okuhida I noticed that every few meters there’s a hot spring. One in the bus station is to warm the feet while waiting for the bus, another one was to boil some eggs.

At the hotel I was so happy to find that they had private hot springs, so I could go alone inside and relax. Yeeey!!They still use this type of phones in this area:
