Edinburgh

The castle in Edinburgh is the only one that I visited during my trip in Scotland. I purchased the ticket online and I paid 17 pounds (otherwise 18 pounds). The ticket I collected one day in advance and I was the only one (afternoon time). The entrance was at 9:30, the opening time of the castle. There were many people and we were split in 2 queues: the ones with tickets and the ones without tickets. I visited the castle at the end of September...

Stirling

Stirling is a very lovely city, with a castle and very nice views to the mountains that surround the area.Expect expensive, but it’s worth it. Two days in this city were a good idea, because there are lots to see. The most visited places are the castle (15 Pounds) and the Wallace Monument (10.5 Pounds). I found the prices a bit too high, so I preferred to take a walk and see them both from all possible angles. The Unicorn appears in...

Crail to St Andrews

To get to Crail I took the bus 99 from Dundee to St Andreas and after that bus 95 to Crail. A day ticket is 11,5 pounds, but I didn’t know, so I traveled with single tickets. The journey to St Andreas was 5 pounds and to Crail 4,5. So for single tickets I paid 14,5 pounds. From Crail I followed the Fife Coastal Path. The way was ok, but very rough and remote. Many parts of the walk were on beaches with big stones. The walk was not easy and I...

Aberdeen

This is indeed a lovely town!!Just one photo that tells more about this place:In Old Aberdeen was today a wedding. Men were dressed in Scottish skirts and the party had a big pipe singer. It was sunny, with very short rainfalls and that Scottish music made the entire moment a dream. Did I mention that I love Scotland?

Aviemore and Loch Eilein

Not far away from Inverness is the cute small town Aviemore. By train I needed 45 minutes. From here, multiple walks are possible, but I chose the one to Loch Eilein. 16 km in total, including walking around the lake.On one island on the lake, there are the ruins of the Eilein Castle. The parking was 1,5 euro per adult, so it is cheaper and healthier to walk. The weather was gorgeous today: a bit of rain and lots of sun.

Dunrobin Castle

The next morning after I arrived in Inverness and because of the fact that I wanted to escape that place as fastest as possible, I left early in the morning to visit the Dunrobin Castle. It takes 2 hours by train to get there. The ticket costs 11,5 Pounds.Traveling by train in Scotland is wonderful! I could look on the window for hours and watch green hills, sheep running away because of the noise the train makes, rainbows, lakes, remote houses,...

Great Glen Way – Stage 6 Finally!!

I arrived in Inverness 2 days ago. Oh man, so many interesting things happened!Stage 5 ended in Drumnadrochit. From Drumnadrochit to Inverness most of the hikers prefer to make in 1 day. There are 30 km to walk and if this is the last day, then it’s painful!! For the people that hike this way starting from Inverness, then it’s absolutely fine. I knew I will be damaged, so I planned this last stage in 2 days. And it was a brilliant...

Great Glen Way – Stage 5

The breakfast today at the guesthouse had an amazing view! The plate was the biggest I had until now in Scotland and it kept me going the whole day.The portion of Great Glen Way planned for today was supposed to be very hard. 24 km with high climbing. I didn’t find the climbings that bad and the first 15 km were on mountain terrain, very nice for my tired feet. The part that I found terrible were the 5 km on main road after the low route is...

Great Glen Way – Stage 3+4

Today was a very long day. The only break that I made in about 8 hours was in Fort Augustus, for 30 minutes.I left the amazing boat at Laggan Locks today morning at 8:30I chose the official path to Fort Augustus, instead of going to Invergarry. The path continued on a mountain terrain for about 9 km.There’s a project for Invergarry Station, I am curious what is that about. The terrain is not feet-friendly:The next 11 km to Fort Augustus...

Great Glen Way – Stage 2

The walk today was 21 km in total, starting from the accommodation (so +1km).First 1km was on the main road:The next 4 km were amazing, there are a lot of lake views. The terrain was made of small stones. It was mud-proof, so I assume it is easy to walk also on heavy rain. The walk continued with 3 km on main road. The last part consists of 13 km on asphalted-path. This was very painful for the feet unfortunately. But there were some nice views of...

Great Glen Way walk – Stage1

Today I started to walk the Great Glen Way. The way is 112 km long (from Fort William to Inverness) and I plan to walk it in 6 stages. First stage is from Fort William to Gaitlochy and is 18 km. The hike was very easy, no uphill/downhill walk and even if in the Internet people say that is the most boring one, I didn’t find it that way. It was quite nice.I tried to find more information about the walk, how the paths are and how hard is it....

Fort William

During the hike I had to walk over a waterfall, I suppose it appeared because of the long and torrential rain. Or maybe this is a challenge that is part of the walk. Anyway, it was pretty interesting, I was very afraid that any wrong step that I make will make me fall with the waterfall over the cliff.

Glencoe

For the next three days I will be in Glencoe. In gaelic Glen means valley and Coe is the name of the river. The landscape is astounding and during my walks I saw deers in the wild, looking at me for a second with soft eyes and after that disappearing between the trees. It’s exactly how you see in the television programs with animals. Here is a deer having lunch:What I found interesting – he didn’t care that I and some other...

Kilchurn Castle

Yesterday I wrote that I am planning to visit an island close to Oban. Well, today early at the breakfast, I took a completely new decision: to visit the Kilchurn Castle. Oh, what a fantastic idea!!So I took the bus from Oban at 10:30, perfect timing for the weather: it was sunny. After 40 minutes I was at the bus station named Loch Awe. Here I had a unexpected encounter: Saint Conan’s Kirk. The entrance was free.So I walked further,...

Oban

I arrived today in Oban, with the train from Glasgow. The ticket was around 30 euros paid in advance, the trip was around 3 hours with amazing views! The moment I arrived in Oban, it started to rain. Bad. Well, this is Scotland so I will not let a few drops to stop me explore this wonderful place.Oban town is small, normally people come here to take the ferry and visit the nearby islands. So it is pretty crowded here. My plan for tomorrow is to...
